Iloilo airsoft’s roots began with a group of gun enthusiast and hobbyist who wanted to experience the thrill of having action pursuit games with war scenarios and the actual feel of firing authentic weapons. And so it went on a Sunday afternoon of February 2002 the first airsoft game in Iloilo was played at Puerto Real Subdivision in
La Paz, Iloilo with a three on three Jungle Scenario. This was participated by Edyz Binoya aka. Barny D, Horny who coordinated for the warsite, Dino Bejar aka. Masterwong,
Dennis Bejar, Mark “T-Back” Consing, Philip Darocca,
Charles Arguelles, and with Stephen Sotingco of ASG
Bacolod.
During the months that followed acceptance of the new Hobby/Sport grew with the importation of new airsoft equipment by the brothers Dennis and Dino Bejar. So on a certain weekend in May 2002 the first Election was held at the JO,s Inato Restaurant with 25 attendees. Thus the Iloilo Ground Troopers was born headed by then president-elect Mark Consing and Dennis Bejar as Secretary/Treasurer.
The high enthusiasm for the sport was evident with the 3 game day a week of the team which led to the addition of warsites which were more secure for the players not to mention safety to possible bystanders. These sites include the First CQB game held at the 012 compound composed of about 12 participants, Glory Rice Mill owned by
Raymond Kausing, Tiu compound which provided an Urban CQB setting, Guimaras Adventure Park which was specifically designed for action pursuit games which has Jungle, speedball, and CQB areas, and finally the present home of Iloilo airsoft the “Pentagon” a 5 hectare privately owned lot which the team developed for Jungle and CQB scenarios.
With the experience gathered by the team in different invitationals within the region plus its participation in the 2003 “Roaring Thunder” CQB games held in Cebu wherein the team was the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award, Iloilo Airsoft, under its newly elected officials headed by IGT’s president Philip Darroca and
secretary/treasurer Basti Tugbang, organized its first Jungle invitationals “Mission Guisi Point” which was a beach insertion with a jungle scenario and the ruins of the Guisi Point lighthouse as the objective. This event was highly successful and participated by airsoft groups from Cebu, Bacolod, Silay and Dumaguete.
As the team developed from its inception to its present standing, its members saw it fit to revise its name from Iloilo Ground Troopers to what is now known as R6 Iloilo Airsoft.
